Just thought i'd throw this one open, where do people like to get their samples from?

I'm talking mainly about vocal loops/words, phrases, Horns, instrument sounds etc...... not really talking about kicks and hats and that, we all have 6000 kick drums in our sample folders!

I'm heavily into 'world music' samples right now, tribal, african kind of stuff and i've found a lot of good stuff on itunes, once i find a wierd artist from outer mongolia i'll look at similar searches and other similar artists and check out their tracks.
I've found some great percussion loops this way too.

youtube has been another place i've gotten good stuff from, audio hijacking the clip and then treating it with eq etc in logic. Some clips in youtube are just unuseable though as you get this 'sheen sound at about 14khz that just messes the whole sound up. Most clips are good though.

Finally, lectures and speeches weather on youtube or downloading them works well, then cutting them up.

Tom, I've been getting a fair bit off people who have their own blogs on www.blogger.com. Recently I've been collecting a fair bit of classic funk stuff off one particular guy on there, so I'm sure there's other guys offering tunes/samples etc in various other styles. Once you find one blogger who offers a particular style, they usually have links to other bloggers offering the same. May be worth a look at least.

Oh right, I just checked blogger.com but couldn't see any blogs
or anything on there. Maybe I was missing something.

How did you get samples off people on there? Did you get them to give you stuff for free or do they sell records to you?

They usually have download links. Heres the link for the funk stuff to give you an example.

e across this blog then? I'm going to try and find some good south American/Latin songs and artists.

How would be the best way to go about finding this?

Many thanks.

Tom I'm not sure what DAW you use but Logic Pro comes with an amazing library of samples - almost 30 gig I do believe! If you don't use Logic Pro find somebody who does and steal them (I didn't just say that)
There's loads of stuff on there and youd be suprised how many of those samples are cropping up in big productions - get in while you can!

I do use logic pro dude, I hear what you're saying. For some reason I just totally forget about them. I will be having a damn good search tomorrow!! Well inspired!

Ye that's a good site kris, I did an interview for them last month and checked them out and was very impressed. Was thinking about getting that new marcus Schulz kick free revolution vol 2. I was
well impressed with vol1.

Do you have any recommendation on good percussive packs? I plan on finding some good conga loops in the logic browser, then converting to new sampler instrument, then replaying a groove.

I love that convert to new sampler inst feature!

What the hell? So you can take a loop with one sound and turn it into the same beat/swing but just with another sound playing in place of the old one?

That sounds ridiculously useful.

Thanks Yanox, it looks great, i'll have a good peek! Muchos gracias! :)

River - yes you can take an audio loop, a conga loop for example, enable flex view, then choose 'slicing' (you can choose others if you have instruments etc), then manipulate the transient markers, tighten them up etc or just leave them as they are, click convert to new sampler track, create zones from transient markers and hey presto you have all the slices mapped out across your keyboard for you.

Or you could just enable flex view, choose slicing, slice at transient markers then quantize the audio.

Quantize audio! :Sigh: Dreams come true!
