What are peoples thoughts on this new Traktor X1 controller from native instruments?

I'm on the verge of buying 2 on monday when they get released, as i like to use 4 decks in Traktor Pro, The only thing that has slightly concerned me is that in a magazine review the other day i saw they said that "the X1 is aimed at time coded vinyl and cd users"

i use traktor pro with my laptop and with the clubs mixer, not the internal traktor mixer, by the way.

From what i could see though it has all the functions i would want, i couldn't see a pitch control on there, but i could remap something for that maybe, i just want to make sure they will be fully satisfying before buying them.

at the moment i use 2 x faderfox DX2's - took a while to map them but they rock, only downside they're a tad small and fiddly.

I use Serato Scratch myself but since Native released the X1 controller i've become more interested in switching over to Traktor - when i do i'll get involved in this discussion and hopefully share my insights :)

No problem. I'll post my first thoughts on it here on Monday. I see tongy has been rocking it amongst others, if it's good Enough for the pied piper it's good enough for me!

Thanks for the kind words man. I still get inspred by that remix of max linen you did you cheeky monkey! Keep the good stuff coming dude!!
You may be getting a wee demo from me in the next week or so if I get on a hot one.

I am definitely getting one in the next week or so - looks perfect for me...

I wouldn't worry too much about lack of pitch - if you're playing without CDJs there's sync and nudge/bend buttons so you're covered!

Absolutely kristoph, those bend buttons have been
invaluble at times. Can't wait! I love my faderfox dx2's but the X1's appeal more as they have bigger buttons, clever layout and most
importantly it lights up blue!!! Lol

I started out with NI's Final Scratch v1.5. Obviously just on the coded vinyl. Swapped to Serato about a year ago. Still use the vinyl on the 1210's but I guess I need to get with the program with CD's. Only got Numark Axis 9's so would probably need to get some new CD decks. Guess I'd be keen for a review of the Pioneers Dean. Looking forward to some more feedback on the X1 Controller when you guys have had a fiddle.

Both Hawtin and Dubfire use them and I feel like we have finally moved away from the old myth that to program and DJ a killer set one needs either vinyl, or CD's. I also feel like we are finally moving away from the notion the DJ'ing equals matching beats.. In my opinion it doesn't.. Anyone can learn to match beats but not everyone can hold the energy of a crowd. I feel that the X1 is kick ass because it's clearly not a toy, widely accepted and frees us from some of those archaic notions..

Very true, I agree with that. I think these days with traktor pro and ableton aswell, they allow you to be more creative.

I have to give a massive nod to Sasha for being the first guy (that I know of) to really embrace the fact that what he did was magical and was not dependant on playing math in front of people by wasting so much of his set time in matching beats. As far as I remember he was the one I remember to really embrace Ableton as a DJ and not just as a producer, and in effect lead us down this path of performing sets as aposed to adding beats. Thanks Sasha!

I grew up matching beats and and dj'ed thousands of parties in the states, and it all changed for me when I Dj'ed with the Pioneer 800's of all things. The loop on that showed me in front of a crowd how much more impact my sets had on people when I was changing the dynamics of the tune by looping and manipulating the loops with effects and spending my time doing that instead of doing the ol' 1,2,3,4..

Sorry to jump on the band waggon at such a late stage in the topic but I'm moments away from buying 2 X1 controllers, I currently use the Faderfox DX2 but as I've seen mentioned its a nightmare to use in a dark booth (as most booths are) due to there being no lighting functions on it, my question is, do you guys know if its possible to use the X1 for decks A and B and then use the Faderfox to control C and D? If so this will save me having to buy the second X1! I love the function of being able to play out on 4 decks, using C and D to float some nice loops whilst mixing between A and B, Voodoo ray is a classic that I like to loop, especially for the younger clubbers who think its a new track!!!

Cheers

As far as I'm aware it is possible to connect the dx2 aswell as the x1. I was in exactly the same boat as you, and the difference is brilliant. I love the x1.

You can try posting on the ni forums, they'll know for sure. I think if you want
to use the dx2 then you would just simply connect it
and load it's mappings in the prefs.

Hope that helps,

Cheers Tom, I'll give the NI lot a shout to see what their ideas are!

You can. I use the Kore controller to control the mixing section and the x1 the decks. WOnky, I know, but it will have to work until I can afford a proper mixer.

Hey :D
The Traktor Kontrol X1 has a pitch control!!
But it is only by pressing buttons... and not a fader... it is not the best way but I think it won't be a problem after some time!

By the way:
could you give me advice?... thanks!!: http://www.dramirez.com/forums/showthread.php?1828-Traktor-Kontrol-X1-Traktor-Pro-2

I love mine. You still need a mixer to control levels, eq, and crossfader but this thing is amazing.
