Hi,

I love my virus ti polar to death, and use it with logic 9, what i want to do is be able to have all 16 parts of the virus outputted onto 16 aux's so that i can add delays reverbs etc to each individual part.

The problem is the virus only seems to let you have 3x outputs, (by clicking the little + symbol in the virus plugin in the mixer)

The way i set it up (and correct me if i did it wrong) was -

new instrument - multi timbral - 16
selected the virus as the plug in - multi output 3 x stereo
Then in the mixer i clicked on the + sign at the bottom of the the virus channel strip to give me 'Virus 3-4' and 'Virus 5-6'

It won't give you anymore - like 'virus 5-6' virus 7-8' etc
It only allows you those 2 extra outputs.

Here are some screenshots to show you how i have it set up -

Is there a way where i can have all 16 parts from the virus going to 16 Aux channels?

At the moment what i ahve to do is have parts 1,2, and 3 from the virus going to outputs in logic, then if i use any of the other parts i have to bounce them down as audio, but i want to keep it all as midi if i can incase i want to go back and tweek something.

I hope that has made sense, i have posted a lot in the virus forums too but no joy as yet, but i was wondering if some creative routing was needed to be done to get to what i want to do.

Any help or advice would really be appreciated

Hi There

I don't have the ti handy at the moment, have never used more than 2 parts at once from it - I tend to just bounce what I need to audio...

If you go onto one of your aux returns, are the extra virus inputs available to choose there?

Silly question I know but are you on latest plug in and firmware versions?

I went onto a blank Aux and they are there, but still you can only choose 'Virus 3-4' and 'virus 5-6'

it's like you can only have 3 multi outputs.

All my firmware is upto date on it, did an update only last week.

To be fair, it's not like i'm going to use 16 parts in a track, but sometimes, because of how good the sounds are in the virus, i do find myself using 3,4,5, or 6 parts.

I think i'm just going to have to stick with how i got it, which isn't all bad, i'll bounce some stuff that i know i'm not going to automate much, or automate it and bounce it, and leave the other couple of parts as midi on the aux's.

commiting to audio can also sometimes work in your favour - I find I treat it more like a remix, you deal with the parts you've got, and that can take you off in a different direction...

If I bounce to audio though I leave the midi part in muted so I can rebounce if needs be...

as far as automation goes, you can do a lot with the enveloper and autofilter plugins on audio tracks, just bounce it as full on as you want it to get...

fantastic, you're so right about commiting to audio.

Like when i do remixes and you get the stems and you got no choice but to get creative with that audio file. Love it!

Thanks

The Virus Ti can only do 3 stereo out , even if you are running in multitimbral mode.
So this is a limitation of the Virus Ti itself for running at USb 1 speed.
I believe you can do 6 mono out though.

Very interesting about the mono outputs, I might go with a
couple mono and a couple stereo, I'll see when I have a play with it later.

I also read in the manual that you can go from it's audio outputs into your
audio interface, but this is just going to record
as audio so I might as well just keep it the way I have and bounce to audio.

Love it!!

Im the same as Kris, I usually bounce down and leave the midi muted. I like to do a few bounces in place with the midi through some plugins and either combine them (unless it's sounding too cluttered) or drop the volume on parts. I may have about 6 bounce variations then to choose from. I find this way also less time consuming as routing can become a bit of a hasstle for me ( i aways forget something!), unless you really want to automate in a specific way of course.
Is this an advised way to work Kris or would you suggest anything else?

Hi Tom - the Virus TI only allows you 3+4 and 5+6 outputs (that's 6 outputs or 3 stereo pairs) Until recently you could only have 2 stereo pairs but a software issue to version 3 addressed this to 3 stereo pairs.
One question - how does your Virus work for you? the reason i ask is that i get all sorts of problems with mine to the point of not using it.

Thanks for the feedback about the outputs. It works really well to be honest, I've got the original ti polar not the ti polar2, updated to the latest update. I see os4 is about to be released soon, that might address
some bugs you might have, although from what
I've read it seems to be a lot about new fx and that.

I got a little problem with portamento randomly going to max when I use oscillator 3, and sometimes when I start logic it will only play one sound from the virus no matter what channel I'm on. That happens rarely
though. I just restart logic and it's fine again.

Gotta love hardware lol
