Hello all

This is m'y first post here. I m ver y new to électronic music production and I'm More and More addict to it
I would like to thank DRam for his vidéos and this site. Ver y usefull
I dream I could become pro someday but I have Some questions regarding the money in this business:
I'm not interrested in DJing, only producing and maybe remix
How a producer earn his money today?
I understand its better to get signed with a label, but after that its not clear
Is a track generate money each Time it is played in a club? In this case, the More the track is played, the More it generate revenues?
For a club track I suppose that this would be the main way to generate money (radio Playstation and CD sales would be unsignificant, right?)
Its important for me to Know were I m going, so if Some pros here coud help on this subject, would be great

Pardon my strange english from a frenchie :)

Thanks by advance

Kaderm

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Well, regarding your questions....beeing signed to a label is the best thing in the beggining. How much you will get paid and when you get payed will depend of the contract you will sign with the label. I can tell you that most of the producers get their money from Dj Gigs and not so much from productions. If you really wanna survive only by producing you will have to: A) Produce a lot of tracks, B) Produce dance hits, C) Produce tracks to famous pop artists.

Now..my personal advice is....GET THAT IDEA OF MONEY OUT OF YOUR HEAD, for now. Like you say, u are just getting into production now, u have so much to learn, so much to enjoy, thinking about money right away can make you have some future disapointments, and can make you not focus enought on the learning process.

Thanks for the reply

I understant your point about not beeing focused on the money and I agree. I'm liking producing music with my computer, as it gives someone so much freedom to create without being a musician (I have musical background, but I do not consider myself a musician)
The fact is that I like controlling everything I do, and having a clear view where I'm going.

Few years ago, I went into photography, and I did the same thinking: What kind of photography could associate best returns (trust me, photo gear -at the pro level- is way much costly than these days home studios) and personnal pleasure... I concluded that stock photography would be the best way... freedom of subjects, planning, and regular money income...

As now, I feel confortable with Housy style of music (a bit techno, a bit electro... ) and I wonder what are the market rules to make money : this is an important point to me:
1- It forces me to deliver top level products in a competitive domain
2- I can get a return on the investment (gear + time )

As with photography, it was clear how to make money (Licensing schemes, reproductions fees, assignment fees etc...), il the music domain (apart from DJing) I have little idea of how a producer get paid, and in which conditions...

I'm aware all this has little to to with music, but for me, it is a point that must be cleared before I dive completely into my subject !

Thanks
